This spring, Onward NRV expanded its NRV Talent Tours program, taking two groups of high school students on industry tours across the region.
On March 20th, 23 students from Floyd County High School visited Hollingsworth & Vose, Floyd Innovation Center, and Crenshaw Lighting. On April 10th, a group of Radford High School students visited Regal Rexnord. At each location, students received an exclusive presentation and a behind-the-scenes look at facility operations. Students had the opportunity to connect with employees about their career journeys and growth within each company.
Employers also showcased the benefits they offer, including educational assistance and a strong commitment to employee development. Many students were struck by the wide range of career opportunities and the quality of products being manufactured in the New River Valley. By the end of their visits, a number of students expressed openness to pursuing a career in the region. The tours wrapped up with lunch, giving students additional time to engage and connect with the businesses before heading back to school.
The NRV Talent Tours is designed to showcase targeted industries, including advanced manufacturing, to high school students so that they can discover their career interests. The tours provide students with the opportunity to understand the skills and education needed for various career paths and explore what’s available in Virginia’s New River Valley.
Facilitated by Onward NRV in collaboration with Floyd County High School, Floyd County Economic Development, Radford High School, and Radford City Economic Development, the program builds on the successful 2025 pilot in Pulaski County. It reflects Onward NRV’s commitment to attracting and retaining talent in the region by building a pipeline that connects students to local industries.
