Onward NRV’s Talent and Business Strategies Manager, Laken Blankenship, recently represented Virginia’s New River Valley at two student networking events hosted by local higher education institutions to promote the opportunities found throughout the region.
Pathways to Public Impact, hosted by Virginia Tech Career and Professional Development in celebration of National Career Development Month, featured an interactive workshop designed to connect students interested in government, public administration, and human services with professionals committed to public impact. Laken participated on behalf of Onward NRV, sharing insights on living and working in the New River Valley, providing information about regional talent attraction and retention efforts, business engagement programs, and highlighting resources that help students discover high-quality career and internship opportunities.
Additionally, Radford University’s Center for Career and Talent Development hosted an Employer-Student Networking Event to connect local businesses directly with emerging talent. In a speed-networking format, Laken met with students to learn about their interests and career goals while showcasing the variety of opportunities available in the NRV. She also emphasized the region’s tailored job boards and cost-of-living calculator, which are valuable tools for students exploring employment options in the region.
Engagement in student networking events across Virginia’s New River Valley’s higher education institutions is a core component of Onward NRV’s strategic plan to attract and retain talent in support of the region’s long-term growth.
