Onward NRV Joins Panel Discussion on Economic Development
Katie Boswell, Executive Director of Onward NRV, participated as a panelist for the Economic Development discussion hosted by the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce’s Eggs & Issues program. The event, held on February 8th at Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg, brought together local experts to discuss economic growth in Virginia’s New River Valley.
Joining Katie on the panel were Brian Hamilton, Economic Development Director of Montgomery County, and Kevin Byrd, Executive Director of the New River Valley Regional Commission. Moderator Ann Cassell, President of The Blacksburg Partnership, opened the panel by defining economic development as seeking to improve the economic well-being and quality of life in a community.
During the discussion, Katie addressed various topics including workforce dynamics and strategies for business recruitment. Katie also spoke about talent retention and attraction in the NRV, highlighting Onward’s NRV Experience summer internship program that is designed to enhance the internships within regional companies.
Eggs & Issues is a monthly program put on by the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. According to the Chamber’s website, it provides an opportunity for “the community to gather for networking and a presentation on a topic of local, regional, or state internet. Attendance includes experts and leaders on the topic being presented.”
