Executive Director Katie Boswell presented on the importance of childcare in economic development on February 26, 2026, at the Women’s Economic Development Network (WEDN) Learn and Lead Forum during one of the SPARK! Sessions. These five-minute sessions provide attendees with insights into best practices employed by various economic development organizations across the south.
Katie’s session, titled “Child Care Counts”, highlighted asking questions about childcare as part of surveys of existing business and how these questions signal to business leaders that childcare for their workforce is an important factor for talent attraction and retention. As a result of the session, she was able to engage in discussions about Onward NRV and its role in supporting childcare efforts in the New River Valley with fellow conference participants throughout the event.
Established in 2016 by Creative Economic Development Consulting, WEDN is committed to fostering leadership development, professional growth, discussions on current economic development trends, and strategic networking.
