Onward NRV recently hosted their semiannual Tech/IT and Manufacturing Leaders’ Summits on October 21st. These summits are designed to bring together leaders from across the region to share insights, learn from one another, and build meaningful connections that will help propel industry in the NRV forward.
The Tech/IT Leaders’ Summit gathered at the Hyatt Place Blacksburg/University for breakfast to explore the topic “Shaping the Next Generation: How AI is Redefining Tech Education.” Panelists delved deeper into how AI is transforming core computer science curricula and reshaping the future of workforce development in the Information Technology sector. Attendees engaged in thoughtful conversation following the panel about this highly important topic. Panelists included Virginia Tech Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Science Christine Julien, Radford University School of Computing and Information Sciences Professor Andrew Ray, and New River Community College Assistant Professor of Information Technology Josh Taylor.
Later that afternoon, manufacturing leaders met at James Hardie Building Products in Pulaski County. The Manufacturing Leaders’ Summit focused on “Building Stronger Leaders: Investing in Management for Manufacturing Success” with keynote speaker Wendy Glass, President and Founder of Ignite Leadership + HR Group. Wendy shared valuable insights on how developing new management talent and leadership skills can strengthen organizations and position the NRV’s manufacturing sector for long-term success. Manufacturing leaders were then provided with a presentation about James Hardie and given an exclusive tour of their facilities.
