Onward NRV’s Tech/IT Leaders’ Summit Spotlights AI

Onward NRV hosted technology industry leaders from around the New River Valley on April 16, 2024, at the Hyatt Place Blacksburg/University. Attendees had the opportunity to hear Dr. Cayce Myers, Professor and Director of Graduate Studies at Virginia Tech’s School of Communication speak on Navigating ChatGPT and AI.

During his presentation, Dr. Myers discussed how there is still a lot to learn about AI as it continues to develop. He spoke about risks to businesses that included regulatory compliance issues, ethical concerns, competitive advantages, strategic risks, financial models, and copyright fears. Dr. Myers highlighted that there are questions around liability and ownership of AI content and as AI continues to expand, these questions will need to be addressed.

Following his presentation, participants had the opportunity to ask questions regarding the use of AI within their companies.

Twice a year, Onward NRV hosts Tech/IT Leaders’ Summits as part of the organization’s five-year strategy to promote economic development in the NRV and support the continued growth of the tech sector in Virginia’s New River Valley.
