Onward NRV Talent Initiatives Featured in Valley Business Front
Onward New River Valley’s talent initiatives, a part of the organization’s five-year economic development strategy, were recently featured in an article in the February 2021 issue of Valley Business Front. The article, titled “Staffing, Hiring, and Recruiting… Oh My!”, discussed the continued need for developing, recruiting, and retaining talent in Virginia’s New River Valley.
The article highlighted many of the specific talent initiatives that Onward NRV has implemented to address the need for talent in the region, including:
- the NRV Experience Internship Program
- the Job Board on TheNRV.org
- digital marketing campaigns targeting potential talent
- the “Brain Drain” study conducted with the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance and the Roanoke Regional Partnership sponsored by GO Virginia, and
- the Manufacturing and Tech Industry Competitiveness Surveys conducted in September 2020.
Executive Director Charlie Jewell also shared some of the benefits of living and working in the NRV in the article, such as how “[t]he area… mixes small town amenities like lower crime rates with more urban features, largely associated with the universities (Radford University and Virginia Tech), such as culture and the arts. Outdoor recreational opportunities are also a draw. One other advantage are shorter commutes [than those in the D.C. area].”
