Onward NRV Hosts Virtual Manufacturing Leaders’ Summit on Talent

Onward NRV was excited to have guest speaker Gabrielle Bosché with The Millennial Solution present on talent retention and recruitment to industry leaders in Virginia’s New River Valley during the organization’s virtual Manufacturing Leaders’ Summit on November 10th.

Twice a year, Onward NRV hosts Manufacturers Leaders’ Summits as part of the organization’s five-year strategy to promote economic development in Virginia’s New River Valley. The goal of the summits is to encourage collaboration around common challenges and opportunities faced by industry leaders to support the continued growth of the manufacturing industry in the NRV.

During the virtual summit, Gabrielle led a discussion on the importance of:

• Setting expectations early and often: This can start as early as the interview process. During onboarding, show and tell new employees exactly what they can expect from their position in the first 6 days, 6 weeks, 6 months and so on. On average, millennials are deciding their future with your company within their first 6 weeks on the job.
• Connecting your employees to their purpose: Communicate to your employees clearly and often that they are making a difference. Create a culture and environment where your employees don’t want to leave.
• Being curious, not critical: When an employee is doing something differently than you would, ask them to show you why and how they approached the problem.
