Onward Co – Hosts Knowledge Work Consortium with VEDP

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) joined with Onward NRV to host a roundtable discussion about the Knowledge Work ecosystem in Virginia’s New River Valley at the Highlander Hotel in Radford on October 16, 2024. The roundtable brought together a variety of industry, higher education, and public sector leaders from the region to tackle some of the more challenging issues facing the Knowledge Work industry in the NRV.

Knowledge Work is the sector that represents Virginia’s highest total growth potential in the next ten years, and it includes business and financial services, software and cybersecurity, and aerospace and defense innovation. The discussions during the event focused on the issues surrounding housing, AI in the workforce, incentives for remote workers, and internship support for small businesses. Each table produced possible solutions and programming to help combat these challenges with actionable items.

VEDP will take these thoughts and suggestions back to their headquarters in Richmond and begin drawing up long-term goals that will help impact the region and the Commonwealth regarding Knowledge Work sector growth and workforce retention.
