Onward NRV Hosts VEDP International Team
Onward NRV had the pleasure to host the Virginia Economic Development (VEDP) International Team on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, on a visit to Virginia’s New River Valley. The team consisted of VEDP Business Development Managers and Directors from Europe, Tokyo, and South Korea. For some, this was their first time in Virginia and the New River Valley.
Samantha Livesay, Director of Business Engagement, started the visit with a regional overview of Virginia’s New River Valley. In her presentation, she highlighted what a beautiful place the NRV is to live, work and do business because of its small-town atmosphere, innovation, and collaborative and business-friendly culture.
A lot of the conversation during the International Team’s visit was centered around why the NRV is a great place to do business. Beyond the beautiful scenery and diverse people, the NRV is affordable, accessible, and has easy access to talent due to the presence of Virginia Tech, Radford University, and New River Community College in the region.
The VEDP International Team was excited to hear the region is home to a growing number of foreign-based corporations and technology companies. The region’s assets like universities, community groups, and cultural events help foster a culture of tolerance, acceptance, and celebration of the differences in our community. The abundance of international business provides a more diverse industry base and population.
Onward NRV concluded the evening with hosting dinner for the International Team at Preston’s Restaurant at the Inn at Virginia Tech. The local economic development offices from around the region were invited to attend and network with the international team. This was a great opportunity for the LEDOs to give the visitors a more detailed overview of the NRV’s localities and the region’s available sites and buildings for future international industry.
