Onward Serves as Judge for Radford University’s Highlander Research Blitz

For the second year in a row, Samantha Livesay, Senior Director of Business Engagement, had the privilege of serving as a judge for Radford University’s Highlander Research Blitz — a dynamic competition where both undergraduate and graduate students present their original, mentored research or creative inquiry.

With only three minutes and one visual aid, participants are challenged to clearly and compellingly communicate the significance of their work to a general audience.

This year, Samantha judged the graduate-level competition, where six students delivered insightful presentations on topics ranging from setting boundaries for a sustainable life to AI-powered e-commerce.

As a proud Radford University alumna, Samantha values this opportunity not only as a meaningful way to give back but also as a chance to help connect students with potential employers across the New River Valley. Many of the research topics aligned closely with the region’s key industries, underscoring the pipeline of innovative talent emerging from Radford.

Attending events like the Highlander Research Blitz aligns closely with Onward New River Valley’s mission to support the community and strengthen talent retention efforts. These events not only celebrate academic excellence but also highlight the relevance of student research to the NRV’s key industries, affirming the value of engaging with the next generation of professionals and reinforcing the region as a place where talent can thrive.
