As Executive Director, Katie manages the Onward NRV team and promotes Virginia’s New River Valley as a premier destination to live, work, and do business. Originally from Blacksburg, Katie earned a B.S. in Psychology from Davidson College in 2009 and a M.Ed. in Elementary Education from Vanderbilt University in 2010. Katie spends her free time reading, gardening, and exploring the NRV with her family.

Senior Director of Business Engagement
As Senior Director of Business Engagement, Samantha works alongside our investors, local employers and educational institutions to support business attraction and retention. She promotes the NRV Experience to area employers as an effort to attract and retain world class talent in Virginia’s New River Valley. As a Christiansburg native, Samantha earned her B.S. in Communication from Radford University. She loves spending time with her family either hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains or camping on the New River, and they appreciate the opportunities to enjoy nature that making their home in the New River Valley provides.
Rachel Johnson | Marketing Manager
As Marketing Manager at Onward NRV, Rachel oversees branding, websites, and social media to promote Virginia’s New River Valley as a top place to live, work, and do business. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Liberty University and has a diverse background in management and television. After living abroad, she returned to the NRV for its opportunities and quality of life. In her free time, she enjoys family, travel, and exploring the region.

KT Torrey | Office Administrator
As Office Administrator, KT provides general office and bookkeeping support to the Onward team. Born and raised in Fredericksburg, VA, KT’s background is in education and human resource management. They hold a BHA in American History and Drama from Carnegie Mellon University and an MA in English from Georgetown. In their spare time, KT enjoys writing, exploring the NRV’s many walking trails, and puzzling over British sci-fi TV series from the 1970s.
