Onward NRV Participates in Eggs & Issues Economic Development Panel

Onward NRV Director of Business Engagement Samantha Livesay recently served as a panelist for the Economic Development session of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce’s Eggs & Issues program. The event took place on February 2nd at Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg.

Samantha served on the panel alongside other economic development leaders in the community. Brian Hamilton, Economic Development Director of Montgomery County, Kevin Byrd, Executive Director of the New River Valley Regional Commission, and Samantha discussed the factors that are contributing to economic development success in our region, challenges or barriers to economic development, and exciting opportunities on the horizon for regional success.

Lindsay Akers, Director of Government Relations for the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, kicked-off the presentation with a state-wide economic development update and regional highlights. Moderator Scott Tate, Associate Director for Community Innovations at the Virginia Tech Center for Economic & Community Engagement, then led the discussion with the panelists.

“Onward NRV and our region have seen success from our 5-year strategy, Onward 2023. In the past 5 years, collectively, our region has created 2,485 jobs and $546MM in capital investment. This is proof that our region is successful and can continue to be successful with continued partnership and collaboration.” Samantha Livesay noted.

Eggs & Issues is a monthly program put on by the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. According to the Chamber’s website, it provides an opportunity for “the community to gather for networking and a presentation on a topic of local, regional, or state internet. Attendance includes experts and leaders on the topic being presented.”
