NRV Experience 2021 Kicks Off at Sinkland Farms

Onward NRV hosted a Kick-Off Event for the NRV Experience 2021 summer cohort at Sinkland Farms on June 3, 2021. During the event, interns learned about the NRV Experience program and Virginia’s New River Valley. They also had the opportunity to network with their peers and enjoy dinner from Hethwood Market.

Director of Business Engagement James Cabler began by welcoming the interns and explaining the purpose of the NRV Experience. Director of Marketing Katie Boswell then told the interns about the five excursions around the NRV that they would be participating in this summer. Finally, Exelaration’s VP of Partnerships Amy Baldwin spoke to the interns about networking and engaged them in an ice breaker activity so they could get to know one another.

The NRV Experience is a seven-week-long summer curriculum designed to support employer internship programs by helping their interns grow professionally while also experiencing the full benefits of living and working in Virginia’s New River Valley. Interns will participate in five excursions throughout the summer that are designed to highlight each of the different communities in the NRV. In addition, interns will receive weekly professional development trainings from the team at Exelaration about topics such as communication, emotional intelligence, leadership, and more.

Onward NRV will host the following excursions for the NRV Experience 2021 in partnership with the local tourism directors:

• Floyd County: Art Classes at Floyd Center for the Arts and Downtown Tour
• Giles County: Outdoor Adventures at Mountain Lake Lodge
• Pulaski County: River Turtles Baseball Game at Calfee Park
• Montgomery County: Activities at B&B Theatres
• City of Radford: Floating the New River at Bisset Park

Onward NRV’s goal for the NRV Experience is to help attract and retain talent in Virginia’s New River Valley by showing interns the benefits of living and working in the region.
