2019 Summer Investor Event Recap

Onward NRV hosted its largest investor event to date! The summer event was hosted at Eastern Divide Brewery and sponsored by Lawrence Companies, an Onward NRV investor. Amanda Miller from Lawrence Companies, shared the company’s evolution and how proud they are to be 100% employee owned since 2004. The Lawrence Companies started out as just a transfer and storage company and has now evolved to include data management and document deconstruction, vans, case construction equipment, multiple locations, and more. They were even the 2016 Transportation Partner for Virginia Tech football.

Investors also heard from, Andy Schaudt, the Project Director of Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI), as well as Mark Blanks, the Director of Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership (MAAP). VTTI and MAAP are both investors of Onward NRV and are part of our targeted unmanned systems industry. It was very exciting to hear everything that they are bringing to and working on in the New River Valley. VTTI has recently launched their autonomous shuttle, as well began construction on a rural road to continue their unmanned systems testing. MAAP is continuing to test and develop their drone delivery systems and have partnered with Wing, the first drone delivery company to receive the Air Carrier Certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), to facilitate deliveries to students and staff at Virginia Tech. They will be partnering with businesses and companies in the New River Valley to demonstrate their technology and answer any questions in order to launch a delivery trial later this year.

After investors heard from the guest speakers, they had the opportunity to take part in a tour of the VTTI Smart Road, a tour of Eastern Divide, and/or check out one of MAAP’s drones that they had on display.
